Season 11 might be the final run for The Walking Dead, but fans needn’t fear, for the TV franchise isn’t going anywhere.

Tales of the Walking Dead, an anthology series set to focus on individual stories set in the world of the dead, will see the franchise live on.

The six-episode spinoff from Channing Powell will be landing soon on AMC+, with each episode telling its own stand-alone tale that revolves around both new and established characters within the world of the zombie chaos.

Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of the Walking Dead universe said of Tales during a stream on Twitch's TWDUniverse (via ComicBook.com) back in 2020: "We've left the door open to tell longer maybe multi-episode stories in the universe. We want to keep it really flexible. But to start out with, we want a bunch of very different stories where the audience isn't going to know what to expect."

Calling the upcoming spin-off series more Twilight Zone and less American Horror Story, Gimple revealed that The Tales of The Walking Dead "goes back to those questions people have been asking about different situations, or what happened with different characters that we have had already, and then things that are just not related to anything we've told".

"That's the kind of thing we want to do. We're working on it hard," he added.

So there is plenty of life left in the world of the dead! Keep reading for everything we know about Tales from The Walking Dead.

Tales of The Walking Dead release date speculation

An official release date is yet to be confirmed, but the spin-off is expected to land some time in 2022, so hopefully fans won’t have too much longer to wait.

The official Twitter account for the AMC network confirmed the news in a post which was captioned: "The universe is getting bigger... Tales of The Walking Dead coming in 2022.”

How to watch Tales of the Walking Dead in the UK

Tales of the Walking Dead will air on AMC, which is also home to both Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

It’s unclear as yet how the show will be released in the UK.

The Walking Dead premiered on Disney Plus in the UK, while Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, are available on Prime Video in the UK.

Tales of The Walking Dead plot speculation

Information is thin on the ground at the moment, but we do know that every episode will be different and that current and former cast members will have more of their stories told.

At the New York Comic Con Metaverse’s Showrunner Summit panel in 2020, the showrunners on the series Fear: The Walking Dead, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, pitched ideas for the anthology series to Gimple, giving fans a taste of what to expect, but whether any of these suggested storylines actually come to fruition remains to be seen.

Fear co-showrunner Ian Goldberg floated exploring the rise of Colby Minifie’s villainous character, Virginia.

The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang also suggested a story revolving around the road trip that saw Abraham, Rosita and Eugene cross paths with Rick Grimes and his survivors.

Meanwhile, Fear’s Andrew Chambliss suggested involving the cosmonaut who talked to Victor Strand on his series, as well as Eastman (John Carroll Lynch) from The Walking Dead. Interesting!

Tales of the Walking Dead cast

Could we see Abraham again in Tales of The Walking Dead?

New characters and some familiar faces will take on The Walking Dead in the spin-off series.

The initial cast includes Anthony Edwards (Inventing Anna), Jillian Bell (Rough Night), Parker Posey (Lost In Space), Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Poppy Liu (Dead Ringers), who are all set to appear in as yet undisclosed roles.

“Anthony, Jillian, Terry, Parker and Poppy are the first wave of singular talents who will further expand the Walking Dead Universe into harrowing, hilarious, heartfelt and horrifying new realms and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them to the family, along with these terrific directors. More announcements, more wonderful folks to come,” said Gimple in a statement (via Deadline).

“We’ve worked hard to create unique, interesting and unexpected characters for both old and new TWD fans and I’m thrilled that these are the actors who will bring them to life. I can’t wait for you to see the depth, drama, terror and yes, humor they bring to the screen,” added showrunner Channing Powell.

As for who else will be in it, we can but speculate. The list of potential characters that could feature is long and there are so many that we would love to find out more about. A popular choice will surely be the character of Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz).

Abe met his maker at the hands of Negan and Lucille in the season 7 premiere, but when it was announced that a cast member would be joining Fear the Walking Dead, many hoped it would be him. It turned out to be Morgan Jones (Lennie James) – but the popularity of Abe must be hard for the Walking Dead team to ignore. Cudlitz has also directed episodes in the franchise recently, so asking him would be easy!

Hopefully it won't be long before we get the news on who the writers have chosen for us to learn a lot more about.
